Mary Lou Devlin

Biography

Mary Lou was born in Los Angeles, California, to John E. and Ada P. Hayden. She moved to Portland at the age of five, along with her mother and 3-year old sister, Kathleen. They lived in the Laurelhurst neighborhood and she attended Laurelhurst Grade School and Grant High School.

Mary Lou worked as a stenographer and bookkeeper in the lamp department of General Electric Co. for nine years. She joined the Multnomah Athletic Club and signed up for a horseback riding class where she met and later married the instructor, Charles Devlin.

Charles and Mary Lou bought a small farm on the Tualatin River near West Linn. They lived there for over 30 years and raised four children. She enjoyed gardening and also traveling after the children were grown. They moved to Woodburn in 1967. Mary Lou has also lived in Salem, Oregon, and Santa Rosa and Jackson, California.

Her husband, Charles and sister, Kathleen Wieners, precede her in death. She is survived by her four children Charlotte (Jorge) Morales, Bob (Kathryn), Elaine (Don) Miller, and Fred (Ellen). She has six grandchildren: Mario (Kimm) Lattanzio, Rodd (Kristen) Miller, Ric Miller, Erin, Kaitlyn and Sean Devlin, and five great-grandchildren.
