David K. Lockard

September 23, 1958 - February 2, 2022

David Kelly Lockard, aged 63, of Oregon City, Oregon, died of a massive cardiac event at his home on February 2, 2022. David was born on September 23, 1958, in Pasco, Washington, to Martin S. Lockard and Adeline M. Lockard. The sixth and final child in his family and known forever as the “baby of the family,” he delighted in telling others that he was the only boy in his family with TWO big sisters! David’s childhood years were interesting to say the least. After his parents’ divorce, he spent summers, then whole years living in Cheney, Washington with his sister Sheila and her husband, Bob Lehto. His favorite time was living with his mother and stepfather, Jerry Miller, in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. He had opportunities unknown to most youngsters, including riding in military helicopters of all sizes and fire power. David loved working on cars and created a couple that gave fits to the State Police. Being able to outpace a police car bought him a couple of tickets though he truly was a good driver and never caused an accident. He loved being able to share his automobile expertise with his son and stepson before he became too debilitated to do so. He studied computers and became a computer technician and enjoyed the work. That carried over to his family, where he kept having to “fix” the mistakes made by family members! He was also an accomplished painter of vehicles and worked with his brother Bill on making old cars look new. David found solace and calm by playing his guitar-and he had quite a selection from a 12 string acoustic to fancy electrics. He enjoyed “jamming” with his nephew. For 2 summers he had a mama skunk living under his home and she would come out and listen to him play as he sat on the porch! He said it was funny to see her bat the babies back-it was ok for her to listen but not the kids! David married twice. First to Mary Jo Mangold with whom he helped raise Rachelle, Brian, and Kristin (She died too young at 22.) until they divorced, and later to Jeanette Navarro where he helped raise his stepdaughter, Vannessa and his stepson Kenny. Divorce ended that marriage as well. But not David’s love for his kids. His grandchildren, Olive, Curtis, Benjy, and Santiago were the light of his life and every opportunity he had to “grandpa” them he took! He liked to say that if he had known how much fun it was being a grandpa, he would have done that first! Because David in his younger and more physically capable years loved to fish and float on the Clackamas River, a memorial “float” is being planned. Those who wish to float the river and disperse his ashes are encouraged to plan to meet at the Carver boat launch at 10 a.m. on July 23, 2022, and enjoy the river with him one last time. Those not floating are encouraged to meet at Clackamette Park around 12:30 where a BBQ and potluck is planned. For further information please contact Sheila at (503) 702-9786
