August 17, 1945 - December 22, 2018
Ellen Mary Bramble passed away peacefully with family at her side Saturday December 22, 2018 at the age of 73 after 35+ years with Multiple sclerosis and a four-year battle with ovarian cancer. Ellen is survived by her brother Mark Regan, three children, Anne-Marie Murdock; Michelle (Shelley) Fellers; and William (Bill) Bramble Jr.; six grandchildren, Michaela Murdock; Jessica Grebb; Keshia Bisbing; Christopher Fellers; Savannah Fellers; and Josh Bramble; five great grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. Ellen was born in San Jose, California on August 17, 1945 to William H. Regan, a photojournalist, and Mary C. Regan, a homemaker. She later moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where she graduated from high school. She married William James Bramble of Los Alamos, New Mexico, in April 1963. Ellen spent the next 26 years raising their three children in Denver, Colorado, Chicago, Illinois, Lexington, Kentucky, and Juneau, Alaska. She volunteered with 4H clubs, Girl Scouts and Lexington’s Rape Crisis Center. She also worked as a receptionist for a veterinary clinic and drove a school bus for many years. After she and William separated in 1989, Ellen moved to Oregon where she spent time with family and completed a bachelors degree in psychology at Portland State University despite battling the effects of multiple sclerosis. Ellen had a life-long love of horses and photography. She bought her first horse in Lexington and began riding and teaching her daughters to ride. This inspired both daughters to pursue careers in the equine industry, Anne-Marie in dressage and Shelley in showjumping. When Michaela, Jessica and Keshia were young, Ellen helped Anne-Marie’s family cooking meals, taking outings and assisting with whatever needed to be done. Ellen spent many years traveling with Shelley’s family to showjumping competitions in the U.S. and abroad, taking photographs and enjoying her grandchildren Christopher and Savannah. Ellen was passionate about her Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland with her father. She enjoyed taking her beloved Basenjis to many dog shows and photographing the competitions. She also bred several litters of puppies. Ellen’s family and friends remember her for these things, but also for her dedication to family, positivity, and zest for life in the face of numerous significant challenges. She will be dearly missed. Ellen’s ashes will be laid to rest at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery on February 2 in the Regan grave site beside her parents.
