After 88 years, Iris Blodgett Schmitz-Baker was called home to the lord on February 19, 2017 from her residence at Pacific Gardens Alzheimer care facility, where her daughter held her in passing. Iris was born on October 25, 1928 in Oregon City OR. She was the daughter of Clinton A. Blodgett and Mabel Godek of Oregon City, OR. She married Ronald Schmitz and lived in Alaska for a number of years where their first child Bryan was born. They moved back to Oregon City and then to Portland, Oregon, where they were blessed with six more children. Iris graduated from Oregon City High School and began college. She had aspirations of joining a hiking club after she climbed to the summit of Mt. Hood on or about 1948. In 1960 she and Ronald moved the family to Portland and became owner/operators of Candies Drive-in and Iris soon became known as “Candy.” Iris retired after 30 years of service from Kaiser Permanente as the “Head Cashier/Receptionist” she would then invest in a commercial janitorial business Iris was pre deceased by her husband Barry Baker, her brother Forrest Blodgett and her son Dennis Schmitz. She is survived by her brother Kenneth and her children Bryan, Pamela, Dale, Tim, Kent (Bill) and Eugene Schmitz. Our beloved mother was an avid wedding cake decorator for family and friends. Her love of music, dancing and chocolate were legendary. Iris had a love for people that was evident in her career and personal life. After retiring she signed on to help Meals on Wheels. Iris and her husband were involved in the 1995 Oregon City flood clean-up, where they received a plaque of recognition. Our mother was many things, unbeknownst to her family, every Halloween , she dressed up in a full clown costume and danced with the Town Villa Retirement Center residents. Iris Baker had a number of ambitions and accomplishments, none more important as her 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
