JOE SALAS, JR. passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2009 in West Linn, Oregon. He was born in Santa Barbara, Calif. on June 16, 1948 to Ane (Rosales Salas) Rodriguez and Joe Salas, Sr. Although his employment took him to various cities, he always considered Santa Barbara as his home.Joe was a fun, loving husband, father, and friend to many. He devoted much of his time to various organizations including the 20/30 Club and the Goleta Lions. He also served as treasurer of Pacoima Chamber of Commerce and as President of MEND (Meeting Every Need with Dignity) in Pacoima, California, receiving recognition awards from both the State Senate and City of Los Angeles.Joe loved all sports, both as a participant and a spectator. He coached local tennis teams,girls' softball teams, and many youth teams. He especially loved coaching his son in all of his activities. Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Davidson-Salas, their son and pride-andjoy,Justin, his sisters Viola Robles (Robert) of Puerto Rico, Irene Salas, and Priscilla Nomeland (David) of Santa Barbara, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joe, his mother and his stepfather (Ane & Henry Rodriguez), his brothers Hector Rodriguez and Richard (Diana) Salas. Services will be held at the Santa Barbara Cemetery on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 2:00p.m. with areception following,We can't imagine what life will be like without Joe's wit, talents, and his great smile,In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Salas Memorial Fund at any Washington Mutual/Chase Bank (reference West Linn, OR).
