Pauline Mary Rose Hurias

January 15, 1932 - July 2, 2009

PAULINE HUIRAS January 15, 1932 - July 2, 2009 Pauline was born in Fraser Mills, British Columbia, on January 15, 1932. She was the third child of George Lacasse, and Yvonne Beaupre. The family moved to New Westminister in 1933. Pauline attended St. Ann’s Academy, until she graduated. During that time, she studied and achieved her ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto), Toronto, Ontario. She later studied singing. At the age of 19 years, she accepted the position of music teacher in Dawson City, Yukon, for a year. She loved living in the Yukon, and always dreamed of returning. After returning home she taught piano privately. She played the organ and sang at St. Peter’s Church. Pauline is remembered growing up as having been a happy and jolly person. She often had a song to cheer people up, and would tease her dad with the song “My heart belongs to Daddy”. In 1957, Pauline married Donald Huiras in Canby. They lived first in a small apartment in West Linn, and shortly after, bought a house on Center St. in Oregon City, and started a family of 5 Children. Two and a half years later, they moved to Canby, and shortly after moved to the Canemah area of Oregon City. While living in Canemah, Pauline, our mom could be seen tending her very large vegetable garden. She also attended to the many chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, and goats the family had throughout the years. These were the busy years, raising a large family, and taking care of everyone’s needs. Mom worked very hard, and without complaints, always sacrificing for her kids. One year, while living in Canemah, there was a blizzard. For many days, the family was without electricity, and everyone was cold. Mom distracted the family, by playing the piano, and having everyone sing. We all were able to forget the cold, and have a good time, until moms fingers got to cold to play. She also thought of creative ways that we could make sleds out of what we had around the house. During these years, she played the organ for St. John’s church, in Oregon City. In 1977, the family moved back to Oregon City, in the home where she lived the remainder of her life. After seeing her 5 children grown, Mom started doing something she loved, teaching piano again. She finally learned to drive, and found her independence. The final years Mom was often ill. She rarely complained, and tried to remain cheerful and positive. She had a tremendous faith in God and the future. Pauline is survived by her 5 children, Cynthia Hernandez, Barbara Manning, Roger Huiras, Daniel Huiras, and Madeline Young, and by 8 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Pauline is also survived by her sister Lorraine Gordon, and brother Roland Lacasse. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Huiras, her parents, one sister, and one granddaughter.
