Anthony Joseph Serres
Jan. 14, 1968 - Oct. 19, 2026
Anthony Joseph Serres, a man whose limitless generosity and contemplative spirit enriched the lives of everyone who knew him, passed away on Oct. 19, 2026 in Oregon City. He was 58 years old.
Anthony was born on Jan. 14, 1968, in Garden Grove, Calif., the first of eight children of the late Linda Rose and Edward Joseph Serres. Anthony is survived by his seven brothers and sisters, including Sarah (Rick) Serres, Christopher (Karolina) Serres, Joseph (Amy) Serres, Nicholas (Michelina) Serres, Daniel (Laura) Serres, Anne-Marie (Austin) Serres, and Matthew (Daniel) Serres.
Deeply devoted to his family and Catholic faith, Anthony gave abundantly of his time, wisdom, and talents, never expecting anything in return. He selflessly cared for his parents Linda and Edward throughout their final years, helping to ease their suffering and offering steadfast spiritual, physical, and emotional support. Anthony also was a man of remarkable strength, and he used it to support years of harvests, tree plantings, lambing seasons, and road rebuilding.
Anthony attended St. John the Apostle Catholic School in Oregon City and Christ the King Parish School in Milwaukie, where he was elected school president. As a young boy, Anthony displayed a natural gift for writing poetry and an insatiable appetite for reading. He loved fishing and sports, and delighted family and friends with his extraordinary sleight-of-hand magic tricks. He went on to attend La Salle High School in Milwaukie, Oregon, where he excelled academically and played on the school's tennis team. In 1990, he graduated with honors from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in English and government.
Blessed with a brilliant and far-reaching intellect, Anthony was drawn to the beauty of nature, literature, poetry, music, and film. He found great joy in sharing his immense knowledge and appreciation for the arts with others. He was similarly passionate about sports, relishing every opportunity to cheer on his beloved Portland Trail Blazers and San Francisco 49ers with family and friends. He also cherished solitude, finding peace through prayer and fishing for trout along Still Creek in the Mount Hood National Forest.
Anthony was a devoted friend and mentor to his many siblings, nieces and nephews, offering them thoughtful guidance and wisdom. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, faith, and compassion for the suffering.
Anthony's life will be celebrated at a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 18211 S Henrici Rd, Oregon City. There will be a rosary service at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 30th at St. Philip and a reception following the Mass at the church's reception hall.
In lieu of flowers, the Serres family requests that donations be made to the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) at www.jesuitswest.org, or via mail to Jesuits West, PO Box 68, Los Gatos, CA 95031.
