Barbara Jane Montgomery passed away November 11, 2022 at the age of 96. She was born October 19, 1926 to Chester and Pearl Adams in Martin, South Dakota. She was one of eleven children.
She met Robert (Bob) Montgomery while working, at what was then, The Oswego Lodge. They were married on May 9, 1948 in Lake Oswego where they resided for over fifty years. Bob preceded her in death in October of 2017.
Barbara liked to keep busy and was happiest when she could work in the yard. She loved tending her flowers, planting her vegetable garden, or even just pulling weeds. She spent many fall days canning the fruits of her labor.
In addition to being a mom and busy housewife, she and Bob both volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drives for numerous years. Both were also prolific donators with over 30 gallons each. She also volunteered at Lakewood Elementary school for a period of time.
She was a devout Christian and an active member of The New Life Church for over 40 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Rett (Jim) of Green Valley, AZ and son, James (Joy) of Portland, OR.
Her children would like to give a special thanks to The Meadows Courtyard in Oregon City where Barbara had lived for the past five years. The staff has gone above and beyond in her care. Also, they would like to recognize Dale and Cristy Austen for the care and time spent with her these past 5 years, and the Providence Hospice staff that took care of Barbara in her last days. They were compassionate and caring.
She will be missed by her children, nieces and nephews and her many friends made throughout the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at New Life Church in West Linn on December 13th between 11:30am and 1:30pm. Please RSVP James at
