Parkouring his way through life, Benjamin Andrew Hsieh of Oregon City, OR, died on December 28, 2020 doing what he loved - hiking and skiing Mt. Hood. Ben was born May 15, 1977 in Elgin, IL. He was an avid outdoorsman, a skateboarder, mountain biker, hiker and snow skier. Ben was loved by many. He will be remembered for his quick wit, quirky humor and passion for trivia games and crossword puzzles. He played a variety of sports and was a passionate Chicago sports fan who lived long enough to see his beloved Cubs win a World Series, the Bears a Super Bowl and the Bulls a few NBA championships.
By trade, Ben was a middle school math teacher, who achieved what many of us could not -the admiration and respect of middle schoolers. A lifelong learner, he graduated from Larkin High School (Elgin, IL '95) , Wheaton College (Wheaton IL '99), and earned a Master's degree in Education at DePaul University (Chicago '08). He was well respected by his teaching colleagues, and his humor-filled teaching style traveled well from stints in Silicon Valley &Chicago, before finally settling at Rosemont Middle School in West Linn, OR. Ben did not just dedicate his life to the teaching of others but also devoted his life to following his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member, guitarist on the worship team at Oregon City Evangelical Church.
But Ben is best remembered as a loving and caring father and devoted husband. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Hsieh, and his wife, Rebekah née Lincoln. He is survived by his children, Ava (14) and Ian (11), his mother, Jeanette, his brother Matthew (Jennie), inlaws James (Debby) Lincoln and his sister-in-law Christina Lincoln, along with a loving extended family, Sabrina the cat, and Hufflepuff the hedgehog.
A small family burial is scheduled on Monday, Jan 4. A memorial service to remember Ben's life will be planned at a later date.
Thank you for being a blessing to our family. Many have asked how they can support Ava & Ian, so we have set up a GoFundMe to help provide for their future. gf.me/u/zd8ziw
