Lived in Redland, Oregon for 16 years until his sudden death on June 20, 2017. He was 82 years old.

He was born in Boulder, Colorado, and moved to Oregon at the age of 5 with his parents, Burton and Winifred Barnes, and his two sisters, Donna Maxson and Patricia Harris. He attended Concord Grade School and graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1953. In 1954 to 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and in 1955, he was awarded a special commendation for his heroism. When the helicopter he was in crashed into a lake in Alaskan Wilderness, he dove back down underwater and rescued their unconscious pilot. From 1958 to 1962, he also served in the U.S. Air Force.

Always active, never failing to help others, he will be missed by his many friends—especially on the golf courses. He was creative and talented in woodworking, making furniture, updating and modernizing every home he lived in. Very little that he couldn't do --- or figure out. He had a passion for outdoor activities and loved to fish. He took trips to Alaska and Canada to fish with friends and family.

Burt is survived by his wife of 40 years, Danna Barnes; his three children, Burton S. Barnes, Tamara Mullen, and Deeanne Barnes; seven grandchildren Joshua Barnes, Stephanie Barnes, Shelby Barnes, Michael Mullen, Matthew Mullen, Christopher Barnes and Nicholas Fonseca.

A celebration of life is planned for later this summer at his home in Redland.
