Obituary

Carl was born in Oregon City, Oregon to Tony and Mary(Belecz) Setera, Sr., the second of six siblings. He passed peacefully, with his loving wife Judy by his side on June 11, 2025. Growing up he helped his father maintain St. John the Apostle Catholic Cemetery along with his siblings.

He attended St. John the Apostle Catholic School from 1st through 8th grades and then went on to Oregon City High School. He excelled in track & football, graduating in 1955. Carl also attended night classes and graduated as a Journeymen Carpenter.

A blind date introduced him to the love of his life, Judy Caron, and they married November 18, 1960. Blessed with 2 children, Michelle and Jimmy, they enjoyed camping, fishing and road trips.

Carl worked at Western Electric, and Western Transportation with his father and brother. Following that he took a job as a ship wright in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. He almost took a job in Panama next. Judy said "goodbye, I'll be here when you get back!" Carl and his good friend, Jim, also went fishing in Alaska for a time. He finally found his niche when he joined the ILWU in 1968 became a Longshoreman. After 28 years he retired to central Oregon and came back to Oregon City in 2012. They moved 14 times due to his wanderlust over the years.

He and Judy enjoyed traveling to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and going South in the winter.
Gardening was his greatest interest for many years, and he enjoyed it well into his retirement, only giving it up a few years ago. Other interests included gold mining, being out in the wilderness, geology, polishing rocks, and writing poems and stories.

Preceded in death by parents, Tony and Mary Setera, brother Tony Jr., sister Mary Lou Silvander and son Jimmy (Jimbo) Setera.

Carl is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Shelly Coyle (from a former marriage, David, deceased), Michelle Ryan (Russ, deceased), grandchildren Nick Ryan, Jessica Ryan and Constance Coyle, brother Steve (Amanda), sisters Theresa Nichols (David), Joan Terry (Don).

Carl will be remembered by his family as a loving son, husband, father, uncle, great uncle and cousin.
