David Patrick Helms, born December 31, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah, was the cherished

son of the late Rebecca Morrow Helms and Wesly John Helms. He grew up in Salt Lake City

and graduated from East High School, where he formed friendships that endured

throughout his life-especially with Jill Montgomery.

David found joy in many pursuits: skiing the Utah mountains, capturing the world through

photography, and-later in life-cruising on his bicycle through his neighborhood, across

the river, and around Gladstone. Sharing that love of biking with his son became one of the

greatest gifts this summer, creating memories they both deeply treasured.

At just 19 years old, David began what would become a lifelong career with CBRE. His

longest and most meaningful project was the American Express Building in Utah, where he

devoted decades of skill, dedication, and pride. He remained close with many of the

people he worked alongside, especially Rob Legare and Lisa Hunter. Those who knew

David understood that beneath his quiet demeanor was a deeply sensitive man who cared

profoundly for others. Funny, kind, loving, and attentive, he brought thoughtfulness to

every relationship and every task. He believed in doing things the right way and never

approached mechanical details-or anything else-halfheartedly.

A gifted photographer, David noticed beauty, craftsmanship, and fleeting moments that

others might overlook. After moving to Oregon, he built new friendships and found joy

spending time with Terry Smith (Regina), including recent trips to 49ers and Giants games.

He also cherished Sunday mornings at Ranee's on Main in Oregon City with Scott Nelson

and friends.

David looked forward to retirement and dreamed of living fully-devoting more time to the

people he loved and the passions that brought him happiness.

David is survived by his wife, Heather Helms; and his sons, Jeremy Lister (Sarah) and

Colemann Acord. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Helms (Ron Coulam) and

Shauna Erkenbeck (Hank); and by his nephews Ronnie (Kendall), Ryan (Megan), Cole, and

Kendall.

He will be remembered for his stubborn streak, his laugh, his humor, his hugs, and his

caring heart. David will be deeply missed and forever loved. May his memory inspire

kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness toward others.
