In Loving Memory of Deborah Ann Hoover (1954-2023)

Our beloved Mother, Grandma Nana, Daughter, Sister, Auntie and friend, Deborah ("Debbie") Hoover of Oregon City, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly at her home in December.

Debbie was born on September 19, 1954 to Charles W. and Vergie A. Giddings. She was raised in Sweet Home, Oregon, and attended Sweet Home High School. After marriage to her high school sweetheart, James W. Carter, they settled in the Portland suburbs of Milwaukie and Oregon City to raise three children, Marcus, Jennifer and Candy. They later divorced and he preceded her in death in 2012.

In July 2000, Debbie married Brad Hoover. Together they enjoyed watching sports and libations with good friends. She was by his side when he passed away in February 2016.

Debbie had a long and successful career at Bi-Mart in Oregon City and retired in 2020. She was a devoted employee and role model to everyone that knew her. Customers would often seek her out for her unsurpassed knowledge of all things sporting goods and ODFW rules and regulations, and her Bi-Mart colleagues were more like family than friends. She made so many wonderful friends and memories during her time at Bi-Mart.

Debbie loved fishing, camping, gardening, playing cards and board games, and spending time with her friends and family, but her true passion was crafting and baking cakes for family and friends. During the holidays she could be found in the kitchen baking breads and cookies and preparing pounds of fudge, rocky road and other confectionary treats to share with her loved ones. And her children recall fondly the homemade wedding cakes she prepared for each of them and the many other beautiful cakes she made for celebrations with friends and family. She passed this love for crafting and baking on to her daughters.

A memorial service for Debbie is planned for March 15, 2024 at 1 pm at Hillside Chapel in Oregon City.
