Donald Shelby Shilling was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 11, 1923 to Roy and Ethel Shilling. He passed away peacefully at age 93 on December 24, 2016 surrounded by family members. He graduated from high school at age 17 enlisted in the Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific theatre fighting in Saipan and the Marianas. After his Army tour he attended college, was in the Navy Reserves, and then joined the US Air Force. He was in the Air Force Finance department and retired in Spokane, Washington in 1955. In 1952, he married his wife Donna(Patty) Shilling. They were married 64 years. They have 5 children. Julie Smith(Ken), Janis Olson (Skip), Jill Kennedy (Kent), Jeri Marlia (Vince), and Jeffrey Shilling. They have 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. After his military service he worked for International Harvester in the Motor Truck Division as the Regional Account Manager. After retiring from International, he worked for the Lloyd Corporation as Head of Administration. He was a member of Milwaukie Lutheran Church, the Canby Pitchpipers barbershop group, and delivered meals on wheels. Don loved spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, and traveling. One of the highlights of his life was going on the Honor Flight with other WWII veterans to Washington DC in 2013. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the charity of your choice or to Milwaukie Lutheran Church.
