Obituary

Photographer, father, funny man, dreamer, procrastinator, teacher, comedian, collector, or simply friend, my father was all of these and more to the people who knew him. Photography was his passion. Doug was rarely seen without a camera in his hands.

Douglas Alan Potts was born on D-Day, June 6, 1944, to Howard Potts Sr. and Anne Bergstrand Potts, in Portland, Oregon, and passed away March 29, 2023, in Oregon City, Oregon. Doug kept in touch with many classmates from his school years, in Portland, and graduated from James Madison High School. He received a scholarship and went on to attend Oregon State University. In 1970, Doug married Loretta Jean McMullin. Doug worked in photography stores, taught photography classes, and owned his own commercial photography business. In 1997 he won the Professional Photographers of America National Award. Doug was generous with his photographic skills and love taking candid shots of people during events. Beyond photography, Doug loved the beach, and the outdoors. He was a member of Mazamas. Doug also enjoyed learning about his Swedish heritage.

Doug is survived by his longtime companion Barbara Sherman of Canby Oregon, daughter Brinyon Conboy and her husband Tyler of Tarboro North Carolina, son Alan Potts of Washington, grandchildren Tia, Cheyenne, and Logan. Doug has two great-grandchildren Peter and Ray. Doug is also survived by his sister Joanne Bath of Greenville North Carolina, and brother Howard Potts Jr. of Sunriver Oregon.
