Gordon Groshong, an engineer from Oregon City died unexpectedly on August 11, 2017 at the age of 57. Gordon was born in Portland, OR to Theodore, (Ted) and Diane Groshong. He graduated from David Douglas High School in 1979 where he competed in Football, Basketball, and Track. He went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Oregon State University and Masters of Business Administration from Marylhurst University.
Gordon married Laura Heiken in 1987 and they raised two lovely daughters, Hannah (Boston, MA) and Bailey (Oregon City, OR.).
Gordon began his career at Beall Transliner in North Portland upon graduation. He continued in the tank transport industry with stops at Brenner Tank, Walker Transport, and Wabash Trailers during his career. He and Laura also lived in Wichita, KS and Turlock, CA through the years.
Gordon was an amazing, godly father who loved watching his girls compete in cross country and swimming. He had a real intellectual curiosity about how things worked, and spent time learning about all kinds of topics unrelated to his work. He taught himself how to surf and loved going to Short Sands Beach to ride the cold waves of the Oregon Coast. To those who had the privilege to know him, his big smile, hearty handshake, and good-natured ability to set you at ease will be missed.
A memorial service for Gordon will be held Saturday at 1 pm, September 9, 2017 at John and Susie Schriever's farm. Address information can be requested by contacting Hillside Chapel at (503) 656-4285.
Gordon is survived by his mother Diane; wife Laura; two daughters, Hannah and Bailey; and three brothers, Brian, Jeff and Greg.
