Herman was born in Molalla, Oregon and has lived his entire life in Oregon. He attended Molalla, Yoder, Dryland and Eastham grade school and graduated from Oregon City High School in "51".
Herman was baptized and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church be the Rev. E.G. Wuest on June 29, 1954.
Herman married Ellanore Combs on August 8, 1952. They have lived in Oregon City all but 10 years( which they lived in Coburg, OR) of their marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Ellanore, Son Steven and Daughters Paula Graville and Rebecca Ashley and his sister, Leona Dammon. 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Herman enjoyed fishing, hunting and crabbing with the family and friends, working in his beautiful yard and their getaway place in La Pine.
Before retiring in 94, he worked as a welder an foreman for 40 years. His great joy after retiring was ushering and being part ot the Trustees group at Zion Lutheran Church until his health no longer permitted it.
