Obituary

Hershal Leon Smith was born February 25, 1929, in Arnett, Oklahoma to Samuel (Burt) and Beulah May (Apple) Smith. He passed away in the comfort of his own home with family surrounding him on November 14, 2019, in Oregon City, Oregon.

In 1947, Hershal joined the United States Navy. During his time, he earned a Good Conduct Certificate and a National Defense Service Medal. He retired in 1967 after serving twenty years as a Ship's Serviceman First Class (SH1). After the Navy, Hershal spent his time working as a carpenter, masonry, and civil servant (Oregon City Pool).

Over the years, he made his home in Oklahoma, Oregon, Connecticut, Hawaii, Virginia, California, and Washington. Hershal married Nadyne Lillian Brannin and they spent many wonderful years together before she passed away on November 12, 1995.
Hershal was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, meticulous builder, a dedicated follower of Christ and an avid garage sale participant. He was a member of the Oregon City Christian Church, Stone Creek Christian Church, BPOE Elks, and Optimist Club.

In Hershal lifetime he was blessed with his wife, Nadyne Lillian Smith, children; Hershal (Chipper) Smith, Dawn Marie Heth, Tamera Odell, and Michael McCarn; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nine brothers; and three sisters.
Hershal will be joining his love, Nadyne at Willamette National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Honors will start at 12:30 PM.
