Ivy was born in Oregon City, OR, the youngest child of Charlie and Sarah Hass; her siblings, all now gone to Glory, were Olander (Curley) Hass, Ruby Rice, Lola Lane, Emery Hass, Arleen Dalke, and Milton Hass. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church Elementary School and Oregon City High School.
In 1948 Ivy married Anton Peter Basting; they shared 45 years before 'Tony' passed away on December 23, 1993. They were blessed with three children: Sharon, Steven and Wanda. Ivy was a homemaker who enjoyed picking berries and vegetables with the kids in summer and camping and hunting with her extended family. She liked to travel with her family and visited Hawaii, Florida, and the greater Northwest USA.
Ivy, a faithful 'Child of God", was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a regular at Thursday Morning Bible Study, and a dedicated member of the Trinity Quilters. In her later years, she enjoyed a standing Friday card game with her friends. Ivy was a collector of salt and pepper shakers, her collection numbering about 1700. She also had fun with frogs- ceramics, printed on fabric and greeting cards, as stuffed critters, and on signs/banners.
As a child Ivy's daughter Sharon had need of multiple surgeries. Ivy often remarked how grateful she and the family were for the support they received from the Shriner's Hospital for the care and treatment Sharon received. Sharon, who died on November 7, 2017, was survived by her husband Gary Edwards and son Aaron Edwards. Ivy is also survived by son Steven Basting, daughter Wanda Cox and grandson William Cox.
Ivy was a much loved Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend! She will be missed.
