Obituary

James William "Jim" Powell, 69, of Oregon City, Oregon, born October 31, 1948, passed away gently July 14, 2018 in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Born in Portland, Oregon, the son of Fred Powell Jr. and Sibyl Stinson Powell, Jim was the great, great grandson of Oregon Trail pioneer, Jackson Powell, who homesteaded in Gresham in the 1840's, and the beloved brother of Bob, John, and Caroline Powell. After attending Gresham schools, and PSU, Jim went on to become a Portland Police officer, retiring as Sergeant. He proudly conducted Oregon's 234th National Guard Army Band for thirty years, sharing his French horn and vocal talents, as well as playing with the Oregon Symphonic Band. Jim and his wife Donna, built a home in Oregon City, raising their daughters, Melissa and Marianne, while enjoying the love of rural life, neighbors, and their church family at First Baptist Church of Oregon City. Jim carried a song in his heart, a concern for others, and always a smile and a joke to share. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa and Marianne as well as his siblings.
