Joan Christine Hayse was born on September 18, 1949, to Royce and Bernice Campbell in Portland, OR. She died suddenly on May 24, 2023, at her home in Milwaukie, OR.
Joan first attended school in Metzger. Then her family moved to Milwaukie/Oak Grove, where she went to Concord Elementary School and Rex Putnam High School. She graduated from RPHS in 1967. Then, she continued her education at Portland State University with a major in history. During that time, she began working part-time in the Registrar's office. She graduated from PSU in 1971. However, she continued working at PSU in various capacities until her retirement.
Joan had many interests, especially history. Her bookshelves were filled with many books about history. She also loved cats. Over the years she took in many a stray cat. She inherited this love from her mother, who always took in cats. Joan really loved gardening and working in her yard. She loved going to nurseries and garden shops. In fact, she had a nursery trip planned the day before she passed away.
Joan loved to travel. She made several trips to Europe with the Mazamas. She also went to Hawaii several times. She was planning a trip to Italy with a good friend for Sept 2024.
Joan is survived by her brother Dan Campbell (Bonnie), nephews, Doug Campbell, Scott Campbell (Sarah); grandnephew Kade Campbell; grandniece Tiana Campbell; cousins John, Jim, Bob and Don Young; close family friend, Jodi Lee and her children Haven, Gabriel and Ciena Lee, (Joan referred to them as her grandchildren). She is also survived by many friends and neighbors who already miss her a lot. She was predeceased by her parents Royce and Bernice Campbell, Uncle Harold and Aunt Audrey Young and Cousin Steve Young.
A Celebration of Life service will be July 14th at 1pm at the Church of Nazarene 716 Taylor St., Oregon City, Oregon 97045.
