Obituary

Jon Daly was born to William and Juanita Daly on August 13, 1943, in Portland, Oregon. He attended Oregon State University until he enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jon trained as a jet engine technician and loved working on jets. Flying was a love of his throughout his life. He was married twice, for 8 years to Christine and 42 years to Linda. When he married Linda, he also gained a son, Chris and then together they had another son, Benjamin.
Jon earned his living in the construction business. After leaving the Air Force he decided he liked building and trained as a home framer. Through the years he worked in most phases of home and commercial construction. He worked many years as a commercial construction supervisor and traveled all over the United States building fast-track projects in shopping malls. He often took his sons with him in the summers. Jon loved having Chris and Ben with him and helping them to learn the different trades. He was very proud of the men his sons became.
Jon's hobbies included raising and showing Saint Bernard dogs. He won numerous awards with his dogs and also had Shar Pei's for 26 years. Jon also loved racing fast cars. He and his brother Robert raced their cars together at the Portland International Raceway. Jon was a longtime member of the YMCA and helped build the Gladstone BMX bicycle racing park for kids. Jon loved playing sports and did some coaching of his boys' soccer games. Being a spectator for the various sports his sons and grandchildren played was always a highlight of his life.
Jon was a Christian and attended the Gladstone Christian Church for many years. He was very active in church life and was a deacon on Sundays. He remained a Believer throughout his life and was a very patriotic Christian. At the time of his death, he resided with his wife Linda in Oregon City. Jon valiantly fought heart disease, kidney failure and cancer for many years. He endured four years of kidney dialysis because he wanted to live to see his grandchildren grow up.
Jon's sister Maureen preceded him in death. He leaves behind his wife Linda, sons Christopher Hartson (Marci) and Benjamin Daly (Melissa) as well as brother Robert. Jon has eight grandchildren: Nathan, Owen, Daniel, Deborah, Midnite, Keyshia, Shawna and Tobias; five nieces and a nephew and their families. Celebration of Life Services will be November 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Hillside Chapel in Oregon City. As a veteran, he will be entombed at the Willamette National Cemetery.
