Obituary

Julia Velma Feeney was born February 23 in 1924 to parents Robert & Nancy Hearn in Newcastle Oklahoma. She grew up in a large family of 10 siblings, 4 girls and 6 boys. The Dust Bowl dried up their farm, forcing them to move to California to find work in the fields.

She married Paul Baker in 1942 and they had two sons, Danny and James. Paul was later killed in an oil field accident in January of 1949. Velma married Otis Gladden in 1950 and they had a daughter Diane. They moved from California to Klamath Falls Oregon with their family. Otis passed away in
1974 and Velma moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1976. While living in Roseburg she married Robert Feeney in 1982. In 2005, Velma moved to Oregon City where she lived the remainder of her life.

She worked a variety of jobs, from the early years working in the picking cotton and the potato harvest, to working as a bank teller.
Velma was proud of her Native American heritage and loved to share stories and show everyone the arrowheads she found. She loved to camp, hike, and travel and was always ready to go to the beach. Velma always loved to spend time with family and friends.

Velma is survived by her brother, Richard Hearn, children James Baker and wife Tammy, Diane Cavener and husband Gary, eight grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She also had many others in her life that she considered family.

Velma made a huge impact on hundreds of people throughout her life, whether it was by helping them through her beloved church, lending them an ear, a place to stay, or through one of the many acts of selfless kindness she exhibited throughout her 94 years of life.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Oregon City Church of the Nazarene, 716 Taylor St. Oregon City on August 25th at 11:00 AM.
