In Loving Memory of Mary Ellen Garrett (August 6, 1933 - January 16, 2020)
Mary Ellen (Marx) (Hinkle) Garrett passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 in Portland, OR at the age of 86.

Mary, Mom, Grandma, Sis, Great-Grandma, Friend, was blessed with nine children. She is survived by her children David Hinkle (Tracy), Oregon City, OR; Cynthia Diane Hinkle (Jeff), Newport, WA; Debra Jean Wall, Buckley, WA; Daniel Stephen Hinkle (Vicki), Oak Grove, OR; Joseph Marion Hinkle (Cheryl), Gresham, OR; Donald Allen Hinkle, Canby, OR; Joyce Marie Pinkham (Alvin), Wapato, WA and Brenda Mary Hinkle (Eddie), Portland, OR.
Mary is also survived by her longtime friend Don Bagley, numerous and loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Al Garrett, her daughter Camilla Jane Hinkle, her parents Joseph and Lena (Blake) Marx and her brothers and sisters Betty, Bob, Joe, Helen and Dorothy.

Mary was born on August 6, 1933 in Bristol, SD. Her family moved to Oregon City, OR in 1936 where Mary and her siblings were raised on a self-sustaining farm. They had chickens, cows, vegetable garden, grew and sold flowers, raspberries (red & black), Marion berries, grapes and apples.
For many years Mary was a stay at home mom and loved cooking, canning, sewing for her family. She was very proud of her abilities in the kitchen and would often cook for family gatherings. At dinner she would often find "extra" guests (her children's friends) at the table and not even notice! She was the happiest when cooking for family and friends.

Mary later worked at Fred Meyer's, Barker Furniture MFG and many other jobs over the years and had many lifetime friends that she enjoyed adventures with. Camping, going to the beach, the casino, a visiting relatives in North Carolina and South Dakota.

Mary will be remembered for her giving nature, her contagious smile, her forgiveness and the love she had for her children.
