Mary Ann Leslie

Mary Ann Leslie was born to Georgia Mable Morris and George Washington Swett in Dufur Oregon on October 12, 1933. Later they would move to The Dalles Oregon. As a young girl she would love to ride the ferry with her friend from The Dalles across the Columbia River to Washington. She went to school at the Whittier Building but never graduated. Her first job was cooking in the fields for migrant workers.
On April 4, 1950 at the age of 17 she married John Bruce Hall. They had five children, Jim, Chet Larry, Steve and Sandy. Larry would die at 3 days old. On a trip to the Coast with her husband their car broke down and Bruce had to walk for help. Her legs were partially frozen as she waited.
In May of 1967 their home caught fire and Mary and the kids moved in with aunt Melissa and Uncle Jim. She divorced from John Hall shortly after that. On July 3, 1969 she married Richard Arthur Leslie (Dick) a retired Navy Veteran of 23 years. With the marriage came four children to the family, Sheila, Chris, Chuck and Sue. They would soon move to Oregon City.
Mary worked at the Columbia Basin Nursing Home in The Dalles and later at Willamette Falls Hospital in Oregon City as a nurse's aide.
Mary Loved to square dance, play pinochle and other games with family. If you were at Dick and Mary's house for longer than half an hour you would find yourself playing Pinochle, Trains, Chicken, Acey-Deucey, Back Gammon, Zonk, Uno or dominoes. She was an active member of Amaranth and Eastern Star. Her home church was Stone Creek Christian where she received Jesus as her Savior as also did great, great grandson Dominick.
Mary and Dick, Mom and Dad, Grama and Grandpa, Great Grama and Great Grandpa, Great, Great Grama and Great, Great Grandpa loved their family and always opened their home to anyone who needed a place to live. They took in children, grandchildren, nephews, foster kids, parents, they watched our kids, picked them up from school, bought sports gear, gave money, gave vehicles, employed some and were always available for good advice and hugs.
She is survived by 8 children, 11 grandkids, 26 great grandkids and 8 great, great grandkids.
Mary passed January 12, 2023 at 3:00am at Prestige Menlo Park Care and Rehabilitation Center where she was gently and lovingly cared for. She will be missed greatly by those who know and love her.
