Mollie Magee Schmutzer

February 24, 1923 - November 9, 2011



Mollie was born at home in 1923 in Condon Oregon. She was the third child of Hubert and Nola Magee. When she was very young the family moved to The Dalles, Oregon and then to Klickitat, Washington where Mollie spent her childhood with her siblings Jack, Zada, and Ruth. After graduating from Klickitat High School she lived in Portland and later attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.



Mollie returned to Klickitat after the war where she met and fell in love with Herman Schmutzer. They were married at the family home on February 16, 1947. They lived in Portland for a while, then returned to Klickitat where they welcomed their children Audrey (1953-1953), Scott (1955) and JoEllen (1957). While Herman worked for (and later owned) the family trucking business, Mollie was at home with her children. She enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking and spending time with her family. The family was active in their church, Grace Lutheran Church.



In 1964 the family moved from Klickitat to Milwaukie Oregon. Herman moved the trucking business and continued to operate it there and Mollie ran the household. They joined Concordia Lutheran Church where both became very active in the church family. After her children were grown, Mollie went to work at the Mill End Store. It was a perfect fit for her as sewing was always one of her great loves.



When Herman retired they moved to Seattle for a few years and later to Ocean Park, Washington. There they made what was their vacation home, their regular residence. They joined St. Johns Lutheran Church. Mollie worked part-time at a fabric store in Long Beach, WA. And during that time she did childcare out of her home. All the children she cared for were very special to her and remained in contact with her over the years.



Her family and her faith were the most important things to Mollie. She was baptized into the faith as an adult and was always active in her church. She taught her family about Christ and how important it was to go to Church every Sunday and give thanks for what we have. She always enjoyed family gatherings, hosting and attending all that she could. She loved all children – and they instantly loved her as she had a special way of radiating kindness and patience. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their children. Everyone loved her and she will be greatly missed.



She is survived by her sister Ruth, son Scott, daughter JoEllen (husband Don), daughter-in-law Peggy, and seven grandchildren: Renee' (Chris), Ryan, Rachel (Alex), Amanda, Matthew, Riley, and Robyn, and her great-granddaughter Abbey.
