Obituary

Norma Rose passed away peacefully at Hopewell House in Portland, Oregon on January 17, 2017, after a life well lived.

The Daughter of Ellsworth and Jane Rossell, Norma was a lifelong resident of the Portland area. She lived in West Linn for over 60 years. Norma was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1952, and went to work soon thereafter at Pacific Northwest Bell as a switchboard operator and supervisor. In 1974, after her children were born, she went to work at Kaiser Permanente. She wore many hats in her years with Kaiser and retired from Kaiser's Information technology department. She was a key element in training employees in the use of new computer programs that she helped to develop. She was well known by all the employees at Kaiser as the one who could help with the programs that were being developed at that time. A well-known phrase at her workplace was, "Call Norma!" or "Norma knows!" If she didn't know the solution, she knew someone who did.

Her last twenty years were filled with family and travel. She and her sisters traveled to Mexico, Canada, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, and the Oregon Coast. She and her husband, Carson, traveled to Jamaica and Hawaii. While her children were growing up, she enjoyed camping and traveling to the coast each summer. Her favorite place was Netarts Bay in Tillamook.

Words that her family and friends have used to describe Norma are kind, gentle, determined, loyal and fun. She loved saltwater taffy and fried clams at Garibaldi. Above all, she loved her family, her friends and loved spending time with them all.

Norma's husband Carson died in 2003. Her son, Scott Rodney passed on in 2009, and her youngest, Daniel Alexander, died in 2011. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Gregory Carson and Robyn, and their children, Stacey and Alexander; Scott's children, James and Jacob; and sisters, Sandy and Katharine.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the West Linn Adult Community Center on Saturday, January 28 from 2-4 pm. Remembrances in Norma's name may be made to the Oregon Humane Society or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
