Richard James Cervantes-Carrillo, born on August 5th, 1991, in Portland, Oregon. He was a vibrant spirit whose life touched everyone around him. Most who loved him knew him as Peanut. From his earliest days at Chief Joseph Elementary to his graduation from Ashland High School in 2009, Richard's intellect and dependability shone through. He pursued higher education at Portland State University, earning a Bachelor's of Arts in 2017, a testament to his dedication, perseverance and wisdom.
Richard was a hard worker, a person who everyone easily fell in love with throughout his various roles at Safeway, Bandinis, FedEx, Benjamin Moore, and NAYA. In 2018, he joined the Army, where his responsibility and integrity led to his ascent from Second Lieutenant to Captain in the Engineers Corps.
No matter the difficulty or challenge, Richard always made things happen. He was a provider and protector for his beloved wife Sofia, his high school sweetheart, and their beautiful children, Richy and Leo. The epitome of the word Super Dad, Richard's family was his purpose in life, and he gave the world and then some to his loved ones. At Christmas time, he was known to walk in the door with an infectious smile - showering everyone around him with his love and gifts; his generosity a trait that exuded from him no matter the season.
Richard greeted each day with boundless energy, brightening each room he walked into with his positive presence. He loved sports, and he repped his Chargers and San Antonio Spurs. You could always count on him for a competitive spirit and could find him on any given day crackin jokes on the basketball court, often with his 3 brothers; their brotherhood had a special bond he instilled. Beyond athletics, Richard was a video game enthusiast and was even starting to dabble learning in French. He picked up many hobbies including wood graving, epoxying, and remodeling his house with his father-in-law Enrique. They built the downstairs bathroom in his home together - just an example of how swiftly he learned and harnessed every area of expertise.
Richard's love for food and cooking for his family was another extension of who he was. He had an upbeat nature and unstoppable enthusiasm that kept him constantly on the move. Whether on the sidelines coaching youth sports or guiding young minds as a big brother figure, Richard always had a smile on his face and his unwavering positivity was constant.
Along with his wife Sofia, and his two children, Richy and Leo, he is survived by his parents Charles and Rebecca, grandparents Cindy, Eric, and Billie, siblings Jessica, Charles III, Saivon, and Carlos, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and a wide circle of family and friends who mourn his passing.
