Obituary

Richard Tony Kolar, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by his family in Oregon City, Oregon.

Richard was born to Peter and Mildred Kolar in Woodburn, OR, on September 1, 1941. He was the fourth of eight children.

On December 20, 1958, he married Rita Ann Gordon. They had five children and resided in Oregon City until Rita's passing on February 27, 1998. Richard worked at Publisher's Paper Company in Southeast Portland before working at Crown Zellerbach Paper Company in West Linn, as a millwright. He retired in 1996 after the mill was acquired by James River Corporation.

On December 3, 2000, Richard married Donna Jean Trott. They moved to Keaau, HI, in March 2007 where they made many great friends, had lots of family visitors and had numerous wonderful adventures. In August 2015, they moved back to Oregon City to be near family.

Richard had a fulfilling life doing things he loved. He enjoyed traveling, classic country music, playing cards, growing dahlias and valued spending quality time with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 24 years, Donna; his children, Sherrie Brunmeier, Laura Martinson, Janice Ritter, Suzy Luis (Paul Luis), Darren Kolar, Christine Bernier and Teri Sipes (Steve Sipes); 17 grandchildren and 6 ½ great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Hosley, Shirley Hosley; and brother, Bob Kolar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mildred Kolar; son, Richard James Kolar; wife, Rita Kolar; sisters, Joyce VanValkenburg, Judy VanValkenburg and Mary Ann Sanchez; and brother, Leonard Kolar.

A memorial service for Richard will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Living Hope Church, 19691 S Meyers Rd, Oregon City, OR 97045. There will also be a viewing on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 11:30am-2:00pm at the Hillside Chapel at 1306 7th St, Oregon City, OR 97045.

Richard's kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and love for his family will always remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be forever missed.
