Robert (Bob) L. Dexter, 74, passed away on February 10, 2024, in Oregon City, OR.
Bob was born on May 15, 1949 in Boston, MA, to Lloyd K. Dexter and Muriel E. Warfield. In the early 1960's Bob's family moved to Southern California. He graduated in 1967 from Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA.
Bob was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. After his service, he took a vacation to visit family in Kingston, PA and met his future wife, Cheryl M. Brace. Bob stayed in Kingston where he earned an Associates of Applied Science Degree in 1974 from Luzerne County Community College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Bob married Cheryl in June of 1973. The couple moved to the west coast and eventually settled in Southwest Portland, OR. They had 2 children, Amanda Dexter Alwine, and Bradley Dexter.
Bob began his career at Fred Meyer and eventually became a sales representative for various fine jewelry companies including Seiko Corporation of America and Citizen Watch Company. Bob's career took him to jewelry stores throughout the Pacific Northwest and he made friends everywhere he went. Bob truly possessed the gift of gab.
In 2003 and 2005, Bob received life-saving liver transplants. He became an avid volunteer for Donate Life Northwest and the Portland VA Transplant Lodge. He spread awareness of organ and tissue donation and was a beacon of hope for other veterans awaiting transplant. Because of his liver transplant, Bob lived 20 more years, celebrating many milestones such as the birth of his grandchildren and his 50th wedding anniversary. His family is eternally grateful to his donors for their gift of life.
Bob enjoyed painting, playing the drums, golf, college football and looked forward to March Madness every year.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of Oregon City, his daughter Amanda of Oregon City, his son Bradley and wife Sharon of North Bend, OR, his brothers Kenneth and Thomas, and his grandchildren Emily and Conrad.
Bob is preceded in death by his father Lloyd Dexter, his mother, Muriel Warfield Dexter and his sister Carol Dayoob and her husband Edward.
Memorial donations can be made in Bob's name to Donate Life Northwest, St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
