Following 9 years of service in the US Navy during World War II, Robert joined the Women's and Children's Clinic in Eugene, Oregon, specializing in pediatric medicine. He retired to Roseburg in 1993 and married Julia Velma Feeney, who survives him. Robert passed away peacefully at Pheasant Point Adult Living in Molalla after a long illness.
