Robert (Bob) James Howell passed away peacefully at home on Monday October 2nd, 2023, at the age of 70, surrounded by his family and friends.
Bob was born on February 9th, 1953, to Richard and Odilia (Lee) Howell in Oregon City, Oregon. He grew up in West Linn, Oregon, where he attended St. Johns the Apostle School in Oregon City and LaSalle High School in Milwaukie graduating in 1971. He attended Clackamas Community College where he ran track, played basketball, and met his wife Cheryl (Frey), before attending Portland State University. Bob and Cheryl were married on June 15th, 1974, they settled in Milwaukie, OR and raised their 3 daughters Melinda, Stacey, and Lauren.
Bob worked for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill for several years before beginning his career as a garbage hauler for B&B Leasing. He worked for 29 years before his retirement in 2007. He was a bus driver for Oregon City School District and coordinated the Pioneer concession stand for 25+ years. Bob was also an active member of the Oregon City Evangelical Church, as well as the Optimist Club.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bob spent many years in the bleachers cheering on his family in their various sports, in addition to coaching softball for several years. He loved traveling to the beach and going camping. He spent much of his free time watching baseball and football games for his Fantasy Leagues.
Bob is survived by his wife Cheryl of 49 years, his 3 daughters Melinda, Stacey & Lauren. His siblings Shirley Schmeer (Mike), Ray Howell (Sherry), Leanne Van Horn (Jim), and Sandra Roth (Tony) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Bob is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held on October 21st, 2023, at 11am, at Oregon City Evangelical Church, with a reception to follow.
