Roderick William Mainhood, formerly of Coleman, MI, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family at Kaiser Permanente in Clackamas, Oregon. He was born on September 2, 1934, to William Walter and Adda Rae Mainhood. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1952. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Mannhiem, Germany until 1955. He then served in the reserves from 1955 until 1964.

He was married in 1955, to the love of his life, Shirley (JoAnn) McPhails Vasbinder for 66 years. He became father to Gregory (Kim), Kimberlia, Jacquline (Patrick), Rick (Grace), Wally, and Nathan. Proud grandfather to 11 and great grandfather to 5.

He worked for Dow Corning for 22 years until moving in 1980 to California, where he worked for the city of San Diego in a power generation plant until he retired in 2000. After retirement, he worked various jobs and enjoyed his time at Baxer Auto parts store in Portland, Oregon.

Rod was an accomplished singer/songwriter, guitarist, square dance caller, auctioneer, and a director of entertainment for the Midland, Michigan County Fair.

He was very active in church and ministry, serving as an interim Pastor and full-time music leader in multiple churches. He was the preacher and music director for the San Diego Rescue and Prison Ministries. When he moved with JoAnn to Oregon in 2004, they ministered with music at the "Cowboy Church" in Kelso, Washington, on the cable TV program "Strolling Down Memory Lane", and at their son's (Rick) church, "Amazing Grace at Summerplace".

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Mainhood, sisters Enid Robins, Elizabeth Mainhood, Dorothy Mainhood; and his son Nathan Mainhood. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sister Mary Ellen Zueverink.
He was a wonderfully devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
