Valdine (Ostler) Guptill, 94, passed away August 21, 2020 with family members close by.

She was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, friend, and a daughter of God. All of these roles she held dear to her heart. She loved all those she met and made them all feel welcome and loved. She had a heart of gold.

Born in Moroni, Utah July 12, 1926, Valdine was the youngest of seven children born to Earl Howarth and Serena Valdina Ostler. Following graduation from Moroni High School, she moved to Salt Lake working various jobs until being hired at the Clearfield Navy Supply Depot. While there, her boss suggested she write his younger brother, Darrell, who was serving in the European Theater. After Darrell returned to his Oregon home, he went to Salt Lake and proposed. She said, "you could say it was love at first sight" and saying yes, they were married three weeks later on October 26, 1946.

In 1948, they moved to Oregon City, built their home where she lived until her passing. Throughout her life she served others. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had many opportunities to work with the youth, in the Family History Center as well as at the Portland Temple. Valdine spent considerable time at her children's schools assisting wherever needed and supporting her children in their many activities. She was a member of D.U.P (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) and enjoyed getting together with the D.U.P ladies learning of and sharing her pioneer heritage of which she was grateful for the sacrifices that her ancestors made so that she could have the gospel of Jesus Christ in her life. She was an avid, skillful bowler and for over 30 years, her and Darrell bowled on numerous Senior Leagues and volunteered to be the secretary/treasurer for many years.

Valdine had a wonderful outlook on life in her words, "We're here for such a short time so I like to be cheerful and friendly to everyone. I like to be HAPPY and it pleases me to help others be the same." She had a great sense of humor, love to laugh and felt that you needed to have a good laugh or some fun to keep your life balanced. And she did. She always had a smile to share. She cheered and prayed for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments in life. Each one was a treasure to her.

Valdine is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters; husband Darrell, son Dwyane, and granddaughter Kirsten. She is survived by her son Neil Ray and his wife Diana, their children: Michelle, Julie, Lisa, Douglas, and David. Her son Scott and his wife Ellen, and their children: Serena, Angela, Scotty, Alycia, and John. Her daughter Paula and her husband Kerry McClellan, and their children: Jason, Shawn, Nicholas, and Laurel. Her daughter Darlene, and her children: Ericka, Andrea, Jonathan, Janette, Jacob, and Charolette and her daughter-in-law Tanya, 68 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. At 94, Valdine truly leaves a wonderful legacy.
