Funeral services for Bill Devine, 75, will be held Thursday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m. at Hillside Chapel in Oregon City, Oregon. He passed away at home Saturday surrounded by his loving family.



He was born in Olympia Washington on February 25, 1936 to Walter and Gladys Devine. As a youth, he was involved in Boy Scouts and later joined the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska and worked for the Alaska Communication System. He married Christine Husk on May 2, 1959 and they made their home in Olympia. He went to instrument school at Tacoma Vocational School where he completed his training. He found his first instrument job in Drayton, North Dakota where he helped American Crystal Sugar Company open a new sugar beet mill. After one and a half years he wanted to move back home so he got a job at the Simpson Lee Paper Company in Everett Washington. When the mill prepared to close 5 five years later he moved his family to Canby, Oregon and got hired at Publishers Paper Company in Oregon City, which was later bought out by Smurfitt Newsprint. He retired after 23 years of service at the mill.



Bill enjoyed people. He never knew a stranger. He loved to camp, hunt, fish, and travel, especially enjoying their two long trips to Alaska. He loved and was very proud of his family. After retiring, cribbage became his passion. He belonged to the American Cribbage Congress, and the local cribbage club. "The Canby Die Hards". He enjoyed weekly games and many tournaments. Over the years, he taught many, many people to play the game. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, And the North Marion Community Church.



He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Betty Everson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine, and children Cindy and Bill Grier, Sandy and Tom Morris, Julie and Fred Quintero. Grandchildren; Marcos and wife Amy Quintero, Danielle and husband Jake Corey, Billie Jo and Husband Casey Courtright, Hannabele Morris, Emily Morris and Lex Grier, and Great- Grandson Xander Corey. Sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Larry Mayes, brother and sister-in-law Tom and Penny Devine, brother-in-law Cliff Everson, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends including those from serenity hospice.
