Winston Marshall, age 88, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away on February 13, 2026, in Portland, Oregon.

Winston was born on November 7, 1937, in Hemet, California, to Carl and Edna Marshall. He was the second of four children; Charles, Winston, Bonnie, and Linda. During his early years, his family farmed, raised cattle, and logged, moving frequently in search of work. Winston's father and uncles later purchased a peach orchard, where the family picked and sold fruit before eventually relocating to Donner Pass to continue logging. Once that work was completed, the family again moved on to pursue new opportunities.

After graduating from high school, Winston followed his calling to become a teacher and attended college to earn his teaching degree. During this time, he met his first love, Irene, who was also pursuing a career in education. Together, they had two children, Wesley and Jessica.

Winston dedicated many years to education, teaching children from first through sixth grade before serving as principal at North Oak Grove Grade School for several years. Later in life, he became the owner of Oregon Wilbert Vault Company.

Outside of his work, Winston had many passions. He was a devoted Portland Trail Blazers fan and held season tickets for many years. He was proudly in attendance when the Blazers won the NBA championship, a moment he treasured deeply. Winston also held a lifelong love for Howard Prairie Lake, where he spent summers camping and fishing with family every year since 1963, creating memories that spanned generations.

Winston and Irene were blessed with their first and only grandchild, Chris, with whom Winston shared an especially close bond. A greater connection could not be found between Grandpa Winston and Chris. Winston later lost Irene to illness in his sixties. He eventually found love again with Patricia, with whom he shared his life until his passing.

Winston is survived by his partner, Patricia; his children, Wesley and Jessica; his grandchild, Chris; and his siblings, Charles and Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edna Marshall, sister Bonnie, and late wife Irene.

Winston will be remembered as a dedicated teacher, school principal, and business owner. He was also a basketball player, fisherman, hunter, and a man deeply passionate about doing the right thing. Above all, he was a friend, father, and grandfather to all who knew him.

A viewing will be held for Winston on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Hillside Chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow at Mt. View Cemetery at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Winston's memory to ALS Northwest, whose support meant so much to Winston and his family for the compassionate care they provided.
